«Éste es arquitecto», me dije. Independientemente de cualquier noción personal que pudiese tener sobre los renders o imágenes tridimensionales creadas por dichos profesionistas, la perfección de líneas, proporción y volúmen plasmadas en las imágenes de JJ Manford lo dejaban claro. Pero… éste, así como lo muestran sus piezas, es un arquitecto muy sui generis, creativo y que muchos querrían para idear el hogar de sus sueños.
La renombrada Galería Marta Cervera, en busca de un ambiente vibrante, abrió sus puertas a inicios de abril al universo deslumbrante del creador estadounidense. La exposición, compuesta por diez obras de realismo arquitectónico cuidadosamente seleccionadas y creadas en los últimos quince años, muestra una visión evolutiva del trabajo del originario de Brooklyn y marca su primera presentación individual en España y en Europa. Se trata de una invitación a explorar la convivencia entre el arte, la arquitectura y las emociones humanas; el título no es casualidad: Jaune Brilliant es un homenaje al color que evoca luz, calidez e inteligencia – características inherentes a la obra de Manford.
Las pinturas del creador son una magistral síntesis de imaginación y vivencias personales, pues – por una parte – se inspira en objetos cotidianos y recuerdos de la infancia, pero – por otra – también deja volar su mente con el imaginario colectivo, piezas de vanguardia como las de Miró y Picasso o hasta la narrativa cinematográfica de Pedro Almodóvar. El artista crea piezas eclécticas que invitan al espectador a detenerse un momento, observar con atención, descubrir cada detalle y reconocer las emociones que surjan. Incluso, a través de la incorporación de obras de otros creadores en los lugares retratados en sus piezas, Manford establece un diálogo entre el pasado y el presente y añade capas de significado que invitan a la reflexión.
La perspectiva lograda por las líneas en los lienzos guía la mirada en los espacios arquitectónicos, en donde la brillante paleta de colores evoca sensaciones de vitalidad. El cuidadoso manejo del óleo confiere a las obras una cualidad casi fotográfica, jugando de forma magistral con la luz y la sombra. Además, aunque carecen de figuras humanas, las pinturas de Manford están llenas de movimiento y vida. Con una composición equilibrada, las obras generan atmósferas acogedoras y tranquilas, evocando la sensación de hogar y serenidad. La Galería Marta Cervera se alineó perfectamente con lo anterior, iluminando correctamente las salas y permitiendo que pudiesen apreciarse correctamente todas las piezas.
En el corazón de la obra de JJ Manford encontramos una exploración profunda de la temática de los espacios domésticos, que trasciende lo meramente arquitectónico para revelar aspectos emocionales y espirituales. A través de sus propuestas diversas, el artista nos invita a reflexionar sobre la relación entre los entornos físicos y nuestras experiencias sensitivas. Al contemplar sus obras, experimentamos felicidad, calidez y luz, reflejando las intenciones y el enfoque personal del artista.
Manford nos recuerda la importancia de encontrar belleza y significado en nuestro entorno cotidiano. «This is an architect,” I said to myself. Regardless of any personal notions I might have about the renders or three-dimensional images created by such professionals, the perfection of lines, proportion and volume captured in JJ Manford’s images made it clear. But… he, as his pieces show, is a unique architect: creative and one that many would thank if he were in charge of creating the home of their dreams.
The renowned Marta Cervera Gallery, in search of a vibrant environment, opened its doors at the beginning of April to the dazzling universe of the American creator. The exhibition, made up of ten carefully selected works of architectural realism created in the last fifteen years, shows an evolutionary vision of the work of the Brooklyn native and marks his first solo presentation in Spain and Europe. It is an invitation to explore the coexistence between art, architecture and human emotions. In addition, the title is no coincidence: Jaune Brilliant is a tribute to the color that evokes light, warmth and intelligence – characteristics inherent to Manford’s work.
The creator’s paintings are a masterful synthesis of imagination and personal experiences, since – on one hand – he is inspired by everyday objects and childhood memories, but – on the other – he also lets his mind wander with the collective imagination, avant-garde pieces such as those of Miró and Picasso or even the cinematic narrative of Pedro Almodóvar. The artist creates eclectic pieces that invite the viewer to stop for a moment, observe carefully, discover each detail, and recognize the emotions that arise. Regardless of the incorporation of works by other creators in the places portrayed in his pieces, Manford establishes a dialogue between the past and the present and adds layers of meaning that invite to reflection.
The perspective achieved by the lines on the canvases guides the gaze in the architectural spaces, where the bright color palette evokes sensations of vitality. The careful handling of oil gives the works an almost photographic quality, masterfully playing with light and shadow. Furthermore, although they lack human figures, Manford’s paintings are full of movement and life. With a balanced composition, the works generate welcoming and calm atmospheres, evoking the feeling of home and serenity. The Marta Cervera Gallery aligned perfectly with this, properly illuminating the rooms and allowing all the pieces to be rightly appreciated.
At the heart of JJ Manford’s work is a deep exploration of the theme of domestic spaces, which transcends the architecture to reveal emotional and spiritual aspects. Through his diverse proposals, the artist invites us to reflect on the relationship between physical environments and our sensory experiences. When contemplating his works, we experience happiness, warmth and light, reflecting the artist’s personal intentions and approach.
Manford reminds us of the importance of finding beauty and meaning in our everyday surroundings. The exhibition at the Marta Cervera Gallery awakens the imagination, invites reflection and transports us to worlds of light and colour where even images with architectural tones will make our emotions dance. ✦
