Apología de la intensidad

“Ser intenso” de acuerdo con la concepción millennial: rasgo de aquella persona que sobrepasa los niveles habituales de energía; suele señalársele como un atributo negativo, aunque está sujeto a interpretaciones varias. Pero… ¿se trata de una prima hermana de la pasión, un grito para llamar la atención o tan sólo un destello de personalidad? ¿Está mal y hay que evitarla?

No y no. 

Serlo implica, por un lado, que aquel se involucra profunda y directamente con todo lo que hace. Por muy pequeña que sea la tarea, se asegura de otorgarle suma importancia. No hay medias tintas: estará comprometido, concentrado y deseoso de superar cada reto exitosamente. En consecuencia, por otro, tener este rasgo contempla un alto
(–ísimo) nivel de perfeccionismo. La exigencia por la precisión será clave en todo momento. 

Los intensos llegan lejos. Suelen ser duramente criticados en el camino y enfrentar caídas y dudas; sin embargo, su perseverancia resulta ser el ingrediente clave para conseguir éxitos. Es justamente ese carácter lo que los empuja a seguir intentando y a no rendirse.

Estos individuos no pueden solos. A pesar de que pareciese contradictorio (¿o no?), l’intense sabe bien que el apoyo que puede dar a otros y el que aquellos puedan prestarle son fundamentales. Lo anterior no sólo para la meta final, sino para superar cada escalón hacia el destino o para los momentos en que deben darse pasos atrás. Porque… sí. Ser intenso implica también equivocarse: entregarse por completo a un camino que parecía el perfecto y caer en cuenta de que toda la energía condujo a una ruta inesperada.

Last but not least, ser intenso implica sentir con mucha fuerza. En ocasiones suelen ser acusados de “tomárselo todo personal” ; no obstante… no es que se sientan el centro el mundo, sino que tienden a tener muchos elementos en mente. Sí, incluyendo tanto el bienestar de otros como el propio. Frente a ello, habitúan elegir alguna actividad artística o deportiva para desfogar esa energía acumulada. 

Así somos: intensos, apasionados y siempre en busca de lo mejor, aunque eso implique arriesgarlo todo. ✦

Apology for Intensity

“Being intense” according to the millennial conception: someone who exceeds the usual levels of energy; it is generally used as a negative trait, although it is open to various interpretations. But… is it passion’s cousin, a cry for attention, or merely a glimpse of personality? Is it wrong and something to avoid?

No and no. 

Being so implies, on one hand, that the individual will feel deeply and freckly engaged with everything he or she does. Even in the smallest of tasks, he/she will make sure to give it big relevance. There are no half measures: an intense person will be committed, concentrated, and eager to overcome each challenge successfully. Consequently, on the other hand, having this trait implies a high (humongous) level of perfectionism. Demanding precision is always the cornerstone.

Intense people go far. They are usually harshly criticized along the way and tend to face setbacks and doubts; however, their perseverance ends up being the key ingredient to success. It is precisely this quality that drives them to keep trying and refuse to give up. 

These individuals cannot go by themselves. Despite how contradictory (or not?) it is, l’intense knows very well that others’ support and the one he/she can give others are fundamental. The latter not only for the final destination, but to overcome each step back and forth towards it. Because… indeed. Being intense implies also making mistakes: fully committing to a path that seemed as the ideal, only to realize that the energy led to an unexpected route.

Last but not least, being intense implies feeling very deeply. At times they tend to be accused of “taking everything personally”; however, it is not that they see themselves as the center of the world, but rather that they tend to have lots of elements in mind. Yes, including both others’ wellbeing as well as their own. To deal with it, they usually choose an artistic or athletic activity to channel the accumulated energy.

This is who we are: intense, passionate, and always striving for the best, even if it means to risk it all. ✦
